World-Ports is an research based app. It has been developed based on the website http://kbsystems.com/WorldPorts-SustainabilityForum/Home.aspx.

With increasing world population, economy, consumption, and globalization, World ports have a challenge to solve. How to increase port business in a sustainable manner? While this increased activity results in economic development, it also results in increased environmental pollution. Application of scientific and engineering solutions can help World ports in developing sustainable solutions by integrating growth with environmental excellence and social consciousness.

Ports and port operations using a variety of marine vessels, cargo handling equipment, fuel combustion, rail/road traffic can result in impact of the marine environment, coastline, immediate ambient environment, worker/public health without proper management/decision support tools, strategies, clean technologies, and knowledge-based engineering & technological solutions. The proposed project titled, “Knowledge-Based Solutions to Promote Sustainability at World Ports” aims to develop a novel knowledge-acquisition and sharing system to research, innovate, and educate students to accomplish the project goals. The PI, Dr. Kura, plans to use international collaboration with his already existing expertise and knowledge-base from maritime industry, chemical manufacturing, heavy industry, and municipalities to accomplish the project goals.
